We often hear reports of the costs to British industry of employee sick days, the implication being that we’re a nation of skivers. A new survey looking at individual working hours gives us a clue as to why so many people need to take to their beds every few months.

Political leaders, tech executives, and academics often claim that the U.S. is falling behind in math and science education. They cite poor test results, declining international rankings, and decreasing enrollment in the hard sciences. They urge us to improve our education system and to graduate more engineers and scientists to keep pace with countries such as India and China.

Writing your personal statement is probably the most difficult part of your UCAS form. Having to write about yourself can feel a bit contrived. You have to sell yourself and emphasize your good points without sounding like a know it all or egotistical.
