A project manager has to be many things. To name just a few, a PM has to be a great communicator, a leader, a visionary, and be able to both build and inspire the team. First and foremost, however, a project manager has to be proactive. We employ strategies to plan the future in order to proactively minimize risk on our projects so that we can deliver on time and on budget.

Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie. This short sentence pretty much sums up the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. It describes the expectations that we have of ourselves and our fellow practitioners in the global project management community. It articulates the ideals to which we aspire as well as the behaviors that are mandatory in our professional and volunteer roles.

Taking the PMP examination is one of the biggest steps you’ll take in your career as a Project Manager and one of the most daunting. There seems to be an endless parade of information to stuff into your brain but don’t be discouraged! By careful planning and structure, you can pass the exam with a minimum of stress and absorb more of the information you need to be a success in your chosen career.

The PMP exam is not an easy exam. It is a 4-hour, 200 question multiple choice exam. Out of these 200 questions you will have to answer 106 correctly in order to pass. However, candidates fail. It happens every week, every day. Yet, knowing that it happens is little or no consolation if the person who fails is you. OK… so you have failed… what can you do now?
